Apple has reportedly been scaling back its production of its recently launched Vision Pro headsets. According to the latest reports, the tech giant has shifted its focus on producing much cheaper models to target it as a mass-market product.

Apple introduced the Vision Pro headsets intending to blend digital content and apps into our physical space. However, this tech from the iPhone maker comes at a hefty price starting at around $3500 in the U.S. as compared to competitors like Meta’s Quest 3 headset which is priced at $500, much more affordable with no doubt. Even though, according to Apple, it tried to reduce the cost but faced many challenges and wasn’t able to achieve it without sacrificing the key features.

The headsets are expensive because they include lots of pricey state-of-the-art parts. According to a report from CNBC, “One estimate from research firm Omdia puts the “bill of materials” for the headset at $1,542, and that doesn’t include the costs of research and development, packaging, marketing, or Apple’s profit margin.”

Another reason for Apple cutting down production is largely because of the sales that crashed, even though they were not very high to begin with. The costly price tag showcases that Apple is not afraid of them. Information reports say employees at three Vision Pro suppliers have so far built enough components to make between 500,000 and 600,000 headsets, and they suspended the production in the month of May only.

The report also stated that Apple is now focusing on building much more affordable headsets before the end of 2025.

There is no doubt that the Apple Vision Pro headsets are extremely innovative, but it is almost impossible to compete in the market wit
