Apple’s personal intelligence system, Apple Intelligence, is powered by Apple’s servers with the M2 Ultra chip. According to recent reports published by Bloomberg, Apple is planning to have in-house servers with the M2 Ultra and, eventually, M4 chips for heavier AI tasks.
Other initial reports claim that Apple has also approached Foxconn, its largest manufacturing partner, to built additional Apple Intelligence servers in Taiwan.
Recently, in Geekbench run 6 Apple’s M4 chips outperformed every other powerful chips from competitors like Intel and Ryzen. Apple was able to take back its crown and M4 chips including M4 Pro and M4 Max established themselves as the most powerful ones out there.
So, it is logical for Apple to choose its powerful chipset for Apple Intelligence. However, it is still unclear whether the tech giant will use the standard M4 chip, or a higher-end variant like the M4 Pro, M4 Max for the new servers.
Apple explains that while many of its Intelligence features process data directly on on-device, some tasks that need more computing power rely on a system called Private Cloud Compute. In these cases, the data is sent to Apple’s servers, but the company emphasizes that your information is never stored or shared with them.
The tech giant has been preparing all year long to enhance and expand its Apple Intelligence features in new countries and in more languages. With no doubt, the company will need to expand its AI servers significantly with the time. We anticipate that these features will continue to grow more advanced over time, especially now that every new Mac comes with a minimum of 16 GB of RAM.
