Amazon is here with a brand-new Kindle family, including the first color Kindle ever. After years of hard work to bring more immersive devices to the market, Amazon announced the line-up on Wednesday. The line-up features the first-ever color Kindle, a reimagined Kindle Scribe, the fastest Kindle Paper white ever, and a new entry Kindle in a fun, new Matcha color.
The retailing giant introduced the Kindle back in 2007 with a black and white screen. Every device since then came like that only. However, the new Kindle has a display that’s designed to ensure colors don’t appear washed out or pixelated, even when users zoom in on images.
In previous years, Amazon attempted to create color e-readers using eInk technology, which is what powers its standard Kindles and is known for its low battery consumption. The new Colorsoft e-reader is expected to have a battery life of about eight weeks, which is shorter than the up to three months you can get with the latest Paperwhite model.
Besides the battery life, the new Kindle offers water resistance, so readers can take it anywhere without any worry. Kindle Colorsoft was thoughtfully designed to deliver rich, paper-like color. “It uses an oxide backplane with custom waveforms for fast performance and higher contrast on both color and black-and-white content,” stated Amazon.
The Seattle retailer has also introduced a new Paperwhite featuring a 7-inch screen, slightly larger than the previous model. They also launched an updated Kindle Scribe, which lets users write on the screen with a stylus and converts their notes into clearer text. Additionally, AI software can summarize in-book notes into bullet points on Kindle Scribe.
The ‘Kindle Colorsoft’ is priced at $279, which puts it in line with comparable devices from other brands available on Amazon, ranging from $149 to $330. It can be pre-ordered now and ships on Oct. 30.
