DJI’s $439 Foldable Drone Is Here To Capture Stunning Aerials

It has been just four months since the compact Neo was launched, and DJI has unveiled yet another small-scale consumer drone, the Flip. This new model exemplifies the ongoing fascination of the company with foldable designs. It also features a set of four propeller guards that neatly stack together, boosting its portability. 

The Flip effectively integrated different elements from the existing lineup of DJI. It offers the user-friendly experience of the DJI Neo alongside the impressive photographic capabilities of the DJI Mini. It is priced at $439 and places itself closer to the Mini 3, which retails for $419, instead of the more budget-friendly Neo at $199. 

This drone appears to target photographers as well as videographers who look forward to simplifying their outdoor shooting experiences. It improves the ability to record in 4K at 60 frames per second, along with the option for slow-motion video at 100fps. 

For still images, the camera captures stunning photos of 48-megapixel with a zoom capability of up to 4x. The Flip weighs in at 249 grams and matches the Mavic Mini’s weight however, it is noticeably heavier than the Neo which weighs just 135 grams. 

This additional weight translates into a significantly improved battery life. The Flip offers up to 31 minutes of flight time as compared to the Neo’s 18 minutes which is an important factor for those who focused on video production. 

Moreover, the Flip features automatic braking to prevent collisions at higher altitudes and enhancements in both charging and data transfer speeds. DJI has introduced a new Local Data Mode which is similar to the smartphone’s airplane mode allowing the drone to operate without an internet connection during flight. 

The Flip is set to begin shipping in the U.S. on Tuesday, however, the future of the company’s sales in the U.S. market over the next four years remains uncertain.
