A recent filing with the FCC indicates that Sony seems to be sure to unveil the successor to its acclaimed WH-1000XM5 over-ear noise-canceling headphones. 

The WH-1000XM5 headphones were earlier compared to AirPods Max by Apple in May 2022. These headphones are widely regarded as some of the finest noise cancellation. It is not only amazing in canceling noise but it also delivers exceptional sound quality, impressive battery longevity, and remarkable comfort. 

Now it appears that Sony is aiming to boost the experience even more with the news of a certification application for the next iteration in the series. It was first highlighted by the Walkman Blog that the filing includes a diagram of the headphones. It showcased a new hinge design that might suggest a return to the foldable style that was seen in the XM4 model. 

In addition to this, there appear to be detachable earpads reminding of AirPods Max along with a user-visible nameplate that displays the model and the serial number. 

As for specifications, the filing mentions support for fast charging and Bluetooth 5.3. However, no extensive detail about the Wireless Noise Canceling Stereo Headset was offered. 

It is noted that these headphones are being developed in Malaysia and are classified as an engineering prototype which is a lot similar to the XM5 filing that provides to be accurate. 

Considering the strengths of the current model, it is difficult to predict what improvements Sony might introduce with the XM6. Nonetheless, excitement for their launch is sure to be palpable. 

Based on the Short-Term Confidentiality (STC) date compared to the XM5 filing, The Walkman Blog speculated that there could be an announcement for the new headphones for buyers around late April or early May 2025. A buzz is already there among fans regarding the WH-1000XM5 headphones by Sony.
