Apple recently launched the Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro chips. The new-generation Mac mini features a more compact design, and the world’s fastest CPU core and powerful GPU to enhance performance.
However, iFixit revealed the teardown of the Apple Mac mini and showcased more details on YouTube. From the start, it begins to unpack a new Mac mini. Despite having a compact design, it is easily accessible to disassemble the Mac mini.
Interestingly, iFixit is known for pulling apart hardware and rating its accessibility based on repairing and designing. Firstly, it detaches the bottom plate by clips without causing harm to the Mac mini. You can easily see the CMOS battery first and replaceable by two screws.
Additionally, disassembling the parts can allow you to look at wireless modules and internal components such as speakers and a large fan. This fan keeps the computer cool and supports heavy lifting of power.
There’s also good news that the M4 Pro chip has a large copper heatsink and the M4 chip has an aluminum heatsink to cool the processor. Apple offers a removable SSD drive, so upgrading to a higher drive is possible.
Despite this, iFixit guides the removal of storage modules and successfully porting between two Mac minis. However, it should be kept in mind that M4 Pro has larger modules than M4, so they can’t be used in each other and vice versa.
The plus point is USB-C ports and headphone jacks are removable at the front but the back ports aren’t. Along with it, the M4 chip has RAM soldered on itself.
According to iFixit, Apple has received a rating of “7” in its repairability score. Hence, the company said, “bright and repairable future ahead,” due to major components being removable in Mac mini.
